Grand Rapids is a city of stories. The HeARTside Community Meal brings forth these food stories, uniting us in a beautiful, poetic, artful experience across the table that exposes our differences and inequities, illuminates our similarities and connections, and builds bridges of understanding between us. On September 23, 2017 we will welcome over 250 neighbors to a 300’ long table in Heartside Park for a healthy, locally-grown meal. Our table top conversations will illuminate our ideal of healthy food access for the Heartside neighborhood in particular and in Grand Rapids in general. HeARTside Community Meal is a work of art that will engage all of those gathered. For a day, nearly ½ square mile of the city will be set aside as an artful backdrop for food storytelling, our reading of poetic grace and closing, and our participation in facilitated conversation about food. HeARTside Community Meal will reveal the food rituals of the cultures that gave birth to our diverse population.
