Virtual Realty in 2017

So 2017 is going to be THE year for virtual realty and most importantly it’s wide spread accessibility for the masses.  At Perspective 3-D, we are exploring how VR can be a valuable tool for the businesses in our community. Businesses are already using virtual reality to provide virtual tours, make presentations and demonstrate  products.  Matterport 3D models are the most immersive way to experience real-world places, and the largest library of real world places in VR is powered by Matterport. As a Matterport 3D content creator, all of our 3D virtual tours automatically include an optional VR viewing experience.  Viewers just need a compatible VR headset like Google Cardboard or the Samusng GearVR, an android phone (ios available soon) and the Matterport app.   Some of the best experiences so far as a service provider, has been treating my clients to experiencing their space in virtual reality.  I have visited hotels, showrooms, builders, real estate agents, non- profit organizations and they have all been blown away by the feeling of  really “being there” and the sense of accurate spatial surroundings.

“Like any new platform, VR needs content to grow, and with the new CoreVR option, Matterport delivers a huge library of real-world VR content and the most effective and scalable option to allow anyone to create a VR experience of a space,” said Bill Brown, CEO of Matterport. “Matterport is excited to bring this capability to its thousands of camera owners and to millions of consumers visiting Matterport Spaces. We believe in the power of VR to help us achieve our vision of giving people the power to experience any place at any time.”

So, we have this technology, it’s relatively easy to access and it is a lot of fun, but is it valuable? What are the potential uses for it and how can our clients use it to the best of their marketing abilities? The potential value hinges on specific business needs, but professionals in fields from medicine, to architecture, to sales, to education are finding creative uses that improve their practices and, sure, get some attention for using an innovative new technology.

As VR becomes more accessible to everyday consumers, the interest in VR by business owners is only going to increase.  Our goal, at Perspective 3-D, is to help our clients be those that climb on board early and edge out their competitors as they embrace this technology and include it in their marketing campaigns.
