Artprize 2024 Palabras De Esperanza. Words of Hope by Andres Bustamante

Words of Hope

Palabras De Esperanza. Words of Hope” is a large-scale aluminum composite metal sculpture installation by sculptor Andrés Bustamante @andresbustm that embodies the power of community, inclusivity, and hope. This immersive experience invites participants of all ages to become the artists, authors, and messengers of encouragement. Inspired by the fluid dynamics of Alexander Calder and Zaha Hadid, the large sculptures’ ebbs and flows represent the ever-changing tides of human emotion. Coated in a dryerase surface, the sculpture invites viewers to leave their mark using provided markers, sharing words of encouragement, drawings, or intentions. Like ephemeral dry erase markings, our emotions and experiences are temporary, yet meaningful. This participatory project fosters intergenerational connections, creating lasting memories and a sense of radical inclusion. “What words of encouragement would you say to a younger version of you?” Alongside the sculpture, a journal with the above prompt invites participants to write letters, sketches, and or words of encouragement, forming a collective testament to the transformative power of hope and community. “Palabras De Esperanza” celebrates our shared humanity, reminding us that every word, every gesture, and every emotion has the potential to uplift and inspire. The journal will evolve into a book documenting the shared wisdom.
